Private Equity - IndiaGrowth
Investcorp’s Private Equity India team targets growth stage investments in focus sectors of consumer, healthcare, financial services, software and business services with a leaning towards businesses with technological leverage. Our preference is on investing behind first-generation entrepreneurs scaling up businesses with asset-light models and proven unit economics. Since 2017, we have deployed US ~$500m across 18 investments. We take significant minority positions primarily in companies within consumer tech, e-commerce and its enablers, consumer products, retail, healthcare, pharma, technology and financial services sectors. As India continues to urbanize at an unprecedented pace, we believe that each sector is strongly positioned to grow rapidly. Digitization, financial inclusion and rising awareness of brands bring further opportunities. We continually scan sector landscapes to identify differentiated and proprietary investment ideas. We make equity investments of $25-50 million in addition to larger co-investments of $40-50 million. We believe in a process-driven approach in all aspects of investing from diligence and relationship-building to portfolio management and ultimately executing exits.
Private Equity - North AmericaBuyout
Investcorp’s North American Private Equity team has been investing in North American mid-market businesses for over 40 years. We are among the most active global mid-market private equity firms. Since inception, we have completed more than 70 platform investments in North America, deploying over $22 billion in transaction value into them. We seek to invest in mid-sized, services-oriented companies with strong management teams, solid cash flows, prominent industry positioning and potential for growth. Our investment criteria are well-defined and based upon our more than four decades of experience. Our transaction opportunities range from buyouts and corporate carve-outs, to controlling stakes and substantial minority investments. We have a strong track record of investing in both founder-owned and family-run businesses. Post-investment, we act as a strategic partner to our portfolio companies and their management teams, utilizing the best internal and external resources to spur company growth.
Real Estate - EuropeReal Estate
Investcorp’s Real Estate platform was established in 1996 and has grown into one of the most active global real estate investment managers in the industry with nearly $11.2 billion in assets under management globally. Our European Real Estate business launched in 2016 to invest in real estate opportunities in the UK and Europe, including office and industrial commercial properties and student accommodation. Our strategy targets core-plus and light-value-add real estate investments throughout Europe that generate strong cash flows while providing potential for capital appreciation through value-add opportunities and active management. Within our current focus on industrial, office and student accommodation assets, we seek mid-box industrial units; Pan-Europe and UK office assets that demonstrate strong occupational fundamentals; and affordable student accommodation in close proximity to top UK universities.
InfrastructureInfrastructure
Investcorp and Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) operate a joint venture (JV) that focuses on investing in social and core infrastructure projects in Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The JV combines global infrastructure experience with local investment insight and expertise. The JV targets greenfield and brownfield social and core essential infrastructure assets in sectors including healthcare, education, utilities, social housing, digital infrastructure, roads and rail. The JV offers investors exposure to opportunities in high growth, USD-linked economies supported by governments’ drive towards privatization and public-private partnerships.
The JV focuses on opportunities that:
● Provide stable, long-term USD-linked cash flows
● Offer attractive net yield with strong alignment of interests
● Allows for asset allocation and portfolio-level diversification
Private Equity - Emerging MarketsBuyout
Investcorp’s Private Equity Emerging Markets team makes investments in mid-cap companies across MENA, Southeast Asia and China and partners with families/sponsors with both majority or minority investments. We also opportunistically invest in international companies that have strong ties with the region. Since 2008, we have looked at approximately 2,500 opportunities, deploying about US $2.3 billion across 29 investments. We seek to identify opportunities in fragmented and growing industries and partner with businesses that are leaders in their respective sectors. Our core investment thesis is that the economic transformation in Emerging Markets and the evolution of the family business model have created opportunities to establish higher-value and larger-scale businesses that require complex and sophisticated processes and enhanced management capabilities. Over the years, we have developed deep regional knowledge in demographics-driven industries, including healthcare, retail and consumer goods, business services and logistics and transportation. Following our investments, we seek to drive growth and value through multiple initiatives. We work with our portfolio companies to improve governance and optimize costs, and we pursue add on acquisitions and revenue growth initiatives.
Private Equity - Technology InvestmentVC
Investcorp Technology Partners (ITP) focuses on investing in growing, European-headquartered technology companies with proven products and end markets. We target companies that focus on B2B end markets and solve mission-critical problems. Typically, these businesses have the potential to expand internationally and feature multiple avenues for growth and significant cash-flow generation alongside quality recurring revenue and good revenue visibility. We seek controlling stakes in businesses with around US $10 million or more in revenues and positive EBITDA that require equity investments of between US $20-100 million. We typically partner with founders (who remain invested alongside us) to unlock the next level of growth for their businesses.
Private DebtPrivate Debt
Based in London and New York, the business manages funds that invest primarily in senior secured corporate credit and private debt issued by mid- and large-cap corporates in the US and Western Europe. We have a 16-year history of providing attractive risk-adjusted returns to our investors across a variety of income-generating products. Our global sourcing platform and proprietary distribution allow for access to attractive investment opportunities and market timing. Our platform is further enhanced by Investcorp’s strong balance sheet, and frequent position as an investor, fostering further alignment with our investors. Our core objective is to seek consistent market outperformance for investors through careful asset selection and dynamic portfolio management, driven by rigorous, bottom-up credit analysis focusing on business and macro fundamentals. We aim to produce diversified, total return-focused portfolios, with a constant focus on capital preservation.
Private Equity - Climate SolutionsVC
Investcorp’s Climate Solutions team helps scale high-growth category-leading companies at the “inflection point” where they have matured past many of the binary risks associated with early-stage ventures and now must successfully manage and minimize the execution risks associated with expansion. We partner with founders and management teams through investments of $25-100 million in minority equity, structured equity and select control transactions. We concentrate on businesses with a tech or tech-enabled advantage and leverage our team’s experience and Investcorp’s four decades of business-building insights to drive results. Our Climate Solutions strategy specifically targets the acute funding gap between early-stage, venture and late stage private equity and infrastructure investors. By providing capital and expertise to help build category leaders, we believe we can deliver positive impact and drive high returns.
