Being a multi-strategy private markets firm, at Salica, we value progress above all else and being a multi-strategy firm allows us the flexibility to support growth throughout the lifecycle of our portfolio companies.
Last year we announced the rebranding of our business as Salica Investments. The name “Salica” derives from “Salix” (the Latin word for ‘willow’) and “Karpos” (the Greek word for ‘fruit’). The name is designed to reflect our firm’s strength and reliability, and its focus on innovation and growth. Willow trees are renowned for their fast growth, flexibility and resilience and, in combination with the fruit analogy, we think it embodies what we stand for and what we are trying to be. Just as importantly, it is our name and our word and gives us a brand that we can build and invest in with our stories and our values.
Salica was founded as an investment firm focusing exclusively on the most promising businesses, but over recent years we have evolved into a fund management business with a unique set of private market funds investing globally in equity and debt across complementary sectors and stages.
We look to fuse our traditional values of Action, Transparency, Expertise and Imagination with a contemporary approach to investments and to balance exacting processes with the agility to capture commercial opportunity and compelling investment returns. Our continuous search for new opportunities has led us to create a balanced collection of complementary funds and relationships. At Salica, we value progress above all else and being a multi-strategy firm allows us the flexibility to support growth throughout the lifecycle of our portfolio companies.
Why multi-strategy is right for us
We believe that being a multi-strategy firm offers us a number of significant advantages.
It enables us to work with the best entrepreneurs, founders and managers irrespective of stage and need. We aspire to help the most promising businesses to grow and being a multi-strategy firm allows us to deliver on this aspiration.
It enables us to build fuller relationships with both portfolio companies and capital partners – by being more flexible and more relevant for a longer period of time we can be a stable partner to the other firms we work with.
Being a multi-strategy firm gives us a range of perspectives and insights that complement each other. We are multi-specialists not generalists. Each of our investment teams has a deep perspective in its market – primary equity, secondary equity or growth debt – and these combined perspectives give us a unique window into the market as a whole.
Operating multiple strategies has also allowed us to refine an operational platform that serves our portfolio companies and our investors by being responsive, insightful and transparent at all times.
