Equitix is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its Nordic fibre optic platform, Local Connect, through a series of strategic acquisitions in Sweden, reinforcing Equitix’s commitment to enhancing connectivity.

Founded by Equitix in 2022 through the acquisition of Falköping’s fibre operations, Local Connect has since demonstrated strong organic growth and operational scalability. With its platform now firmly established in Sweden, the company is poised for national expansion.

In April of this year, Local Connect acquired fibre assets in the municipalities of Svenljunga and Svedala, marking its entry into new regions and signed an agreement to acquire Öckerö Stadsnät AB, the municipally owned fibre network in Öckerö on 30th June 2025. This acquisition, pending municipal council approval, represents one of the largest municipal divestments of fibre infrastructure in Sweden.

Local Connect’s unique model, centred on local anchoring, operational excellence, and a neutral wholesale approach, has proven highly attractive to municipalities. The company’s ability to tailor operations to local needs while maintaining high service standards has positioned it as a trusted partner in Sweden’s digital transformation.

“Local Connect’s rapid progress reflects the strength of our vision and the depth of our local engagement,” said Hugh Crossley, CEO of Equitix. “By combining strategic investment with a deep understanding of Sweden’s fibre landscape, we’re building a resilient platform that empowers communities and drives long-term connectivity across the Nordics.”

Jimmy Stigevall, CEO of Local Connect says
Now Local Connect’s platform is in place and we are ready to expand nationally. It is very satisfying that our local concept is appreciated by municipalities and municipal companies and that they see us as a tool for continued social development.”

Equitix remains committed to investing in essential infrastructure that strengthens communities, enhances connectivity, and supports sustainable growth across Europe.
